Pluto in the 7th House: Love, Power and Who Actually Has It

By Jack · Published October 3, 2026

Pluto in the 7th house brings depth, change and power into your closest partnerships. It tends to show up as deep, thorough intensity: bonds that transform you at best, power struggles at worst. Pluto's sign is shared by a generation; how personal a Pluto in 7th house placement is depends on Descendant distance, contacts and birth time.

Which Birth Years and Rising Signs Have Pluto in the 7th House?

Pluto needs about 248 years to travel the whole zodiac, so it stays in one sign for more than a decade and everyone born in that stretch shares it. A day-by-day scan from 1920 through 2026 finds only eight Pluto signs, Cancer through Aquarius. Nobody born in those years has Pluto in Pisces, Aries, Taurus or Gemini.

The sign is only half the filter. The 7th house is anchored to the Descendant, the point directly opposite your Ascendant, so Pluto lands there only when your rising sign sits roughly across the zodiac from Pluto's sign. The table below comes from 60,000 simulated charts born 1920–2026 across ten U.S. cities, using Placidus houses (Whole Sign in the last column). Read each row on its own: the percentages describe chart geometry, not how many people alive hold each sign. Find your birth years first, then your rising sign.

In the boundary years (1937–39, 1956–58, 1971–72, 1983–84, 1995, 2008 and 2023–24) Pluto crossed a sign line more than once during its retrograde loops, so a birthday in one of those years can fall on either side; check your own chart. Rising signs are listed by share.

Take someone born in 1990 with Taurus rising, the pairing one Reddit commenter used to work backward to a Scorpio Pluto in the 7th. The Scorpio part is settled by the birth year. The 7th-house part is close to a coin flip: Pluto lands in the 7th in 50.1% of Scorpio-Pluto charts with Taurus rising, against 70.0% with Aries rising. Your rising sign narrows the odds, and only the exact degrees of Pluto and your Descendant settle them.

House system shifts the odds differently by birth cohort. For the Cancer through Libra cohorts, born up to the early 1980s, Placidus puts Pluto in the 7th more often than Whole Sign. For Sagittarius through Aquarius, born from the mid-1990s on, Whole Sign does it more often; the Scorpio cohort shows the smallest gap, 6.9% against 5.8%. If two sites disagree about Pluto's house, the explainer on how Placidus and Whole Sign draw house boundaries shows why.

How Personal Is Your 7th House Pluto?

Pluto's sign belongs to an entire generation, so the sign by itself says little about you in particular. Closeness is what makes it personal: to the Descendant, to your own planets, and a birth time precise enough to trust the house. You need three numbers, all on the free birth chart calculator: Pluto's degree and house, your Ascendant's degree (the Descendant is the same degree in the opposite sign), and the degrees of your Sun, Moon, Venus and Mars.

Check one: distance from the Descendant. If Pluto sits less than 6° from the Descendant, before or after it, count it as a 7th-house Pluto, even when it's technically still in the 6th house. A planet on the Descendant makes the second strongest link to the Ascendant, after a planet on the Ascendant itself. Its qualities tend to come out especially in close relationships and can run against the image you show others: sometimes one mode in public and a more intense one with partners, taking turns; sometimes just a strong Pluto color in how you relate, with no inner tug-of-war. Deeper in the house, Pluto still colors partnership, more quietly.

That 6° zone is narrow. In 20,000 simulated charts (births 1940–2005, ten U.S. cities), Pluto fell within 6° of the Descendant in 2.5% of all charts. Among charts with Pluto in the 7th under Placidus, only 12.5% had it within 5° past the Descendant, and 25.8% within 10°. Placidus split the 494 close-to-the-angle charts almost evenly, 251 in the 7th and 243 in the 6th; Whole Sign counted 443 of them as 7th-house. The guide to finding your Descendant shows how that point pairs with each rising sign.

Check two: a tight contact to a personal planet. Look for a conjunction, sextile, square, trine or opposition between Pluto and your Sun, Moon, Venus or Mars within 5°. Orbs of 8° or 9° let in contacts that barely exist, and the tightest aspect is the strongest one. A slow planet locked onto a personal one is what ties Pluto's generation-wide sign to your own story, and Pluto tends to intensify whatever it touches.

This check can't sort charts into real and fake 7th-house Pluto. Among the Placidus 7th-house Pluto charts in the simulation, 64.5% had at least one of those four planets in a major aspect within 5°, and 45.1% within 3°. Most charts pass. What the check gives you is direction: which part of your own chart Pluto's intensity runs through, and how tight that line is.

Check three: birth-time precision. About 4 minutes of birth-time error moves the Ascendant, and every house cusp with it, by roughly 1°. With a time good to within 15 minutes, the house is fairly safe: in 75.9% of the simulated 7th-house Pluto charts, Pluto stayed in the 7th both when the time moved 15 minutes earlier and when it moved 15 minutes later. Good only to the hour, that figure falls to 4.9%, and the house is better treated as unknown. The guide to charts without a birth time covers what still holds.

When Pluto sits more than 6° from the Descendant and touches none of those four planets within 5°, its sign is still a generational marker and the house becomes a quieter theme: partnership is still where Pluto's overhaul tends to run, but it belongs in the background of your reading, not at its center. When either of the first two checks comes back yes, the rest of this page carries more weight.

What Does Pluto Bring to a Partnership?

A planet in the 7th house describes more than the partner you pick. It describes the conditions the relationship itself tends to run on, and with Pluto those conditions involve depth, candor and change. Pluto's house is the part of life where attitudes and stubborn habits go through a thorough overhaul, and where a deep, thorough way of engaging comes naturally. In partnership, that can look like a bond in which you face your strongest wants and most compulsive patterns, and come out different.

The constructive register is self-discipline and a willingness to change yourself first: partnership as the place where old patterns get cleared out and something more honest grows. The strained register is compulsive wanting, steering the other person toward your own ends, or a fascination with who holds the power, or going to almost any length to avoid facing yourself. Same placement, two registers, and the chart alone doesn't say which one you live.

The 7th house also holds traits that are hard to claim as your own. Whatever you haven't recognized in yourself tends to arrive through other people, so a 7th-house Pluto can show up as partners who seem to carry the relationship's intensity, so that you meet that depth in them before you recognize any of it in yourself. One illustration pairs a woman whose 7th house held Pluto, alongside Mars and Saturn, with a husband whose Scorpio Moon echoed it in his own chart.

This reading doesn't mean you summoned anyone's behavior, and it doesn't excuse a partner who mistreats you; the intensity you meet in partners isn't a reason to tolerate control. That projection pattern isn't only a problem. Seeing a quality in someone else first is the usual first step toward recognizing it as yours. What gets reclaimed this way is a strength, such as depth or directness, not anyone's mistreatment of you, and it's a capacity you can learn to use yourself.

Scorpio on the 7th house cusp is a separate thing, the sign at the door of the house; this page covers the planet inside it. The 7th house guide covers the whole house, and How We Read a Chart explains how this site weighs house, sign and aspect.

When Does Intensity Become Control?

Checking a partner's phone is where intensity turns into control. Jealousy that turns into monitoring, isolation or coercion is a safety and consent problem, and no chart placement explains it away or makes it acceptable. Intensity is feeling a lot, wanting honesty, caring hard about trust. Control is that kind of checking, plus tracking where they go, cutting them off from friends, or pressuring them after they've said no.

For the 7th house in general, the strained version is chronic submissiveness or chronic directiveness, sometimes with a dread of closeness, or heavy dependence on the other person. With Pluto here, the risk worth watching is power sliding into one person's hands and staying there, whichever side you're on. The working version is equality between partners and a bond that holds when circumstances change.

This placement doesn't mean you deserve to be treated badly, and it doesn't mean you're the one doing harm. A chart can describe a tendency to stay alert to; it can't assign blame. If someone is monitoring, isolating or pressuring you, that's about their choices, and it's worth talking to someone you trust or using the resources at the end of this page.

Is There Hope for Love With Pluto in the 7th?

Yes, and the reason lies in how a 7th-house Pluto works. It describes an expectation you carry into partnership more than an event waiting to happen: from early on, you tend to expect intensity and upheaval around close relationships. Expectations filter what you notice, and noticing that filter isn't the same as causing anything; how a partner treats you is their choice. In one perception test, many of the students shown a red six of spades reported the card they expected instead of the card in front of them. An expectation of intensity can make calm, steady partners easy to overlook, or easy to mistake for dull.

The placement itself is fixed; what can change is how you live with it. Three moves help: ask what this pattern has been doing in your life; look at the parts of the pattern that are yours to change, such as what you expect and what you accept, without taking on blame for how anyone treated you; and put Pluto's constructive side, its depth and honesty, to work on purpose. Once that happens, your own patterns in relationships tend to make more sense, less like random weather. Two people born at the same moment can live this placement very differently.

Pluto also carries a kind of wisdom that has to be dug out: insights you didn't know you had, on a subject set by where Pluto sits; in the 7th, one likely subject is close partnership itself. The strained version is that wisdom hijacked by vanity, turning into lecturing and dictating. The success version of a 7th-house life is concrete: equality between two people, a bond that survives changing circumstances, and an understanding between you that's hard to put into words.

Does Pluto in the 7th House Decide Who or When You Marry?

Marriage timing is outside what this placement shows, and so are how you meet a partner, what they look like or do for work, and whether a relationship lasts. The simulation figures describe chart geometry for ten U.S. cities, not how any relationship turns out. This page covers the natal chart only; Pluto transiting your 7th house and Pluto contacts between two charts are separate questions. The reading also loses force when the checks above come back no: Pluto deep in the house with no tight personal contact, or a birth time known only to the hour.

QUICK ANSWERS

Quick Answers

What does Pluto in the 7th house predict for marriage?

Nothing about timing, age or outcome. In a natal reading, a 7th-house planet describes the conditions a close partnership tends to run on, and Pluto's conditions are depth, honesty and change. That can mean a bond in which you grow a great deal, or one caught in long power struggles; the placement alone doesn't say which.

Which planet should not be in the 7th house?

None. Every planet in the 7th has a working version and a strained version. Pluto's working version is self-discipline and the courage to change yourself; its strained version is a lopsided balance of power or a running contest over who leads. The planet sets the theme, and how it's handled sets the tone.

What house is Pluto best in?

There's no best house. Pluto's house marks the area of life where your attitudes and deep habits get pushed toward thorough change, and any house can carry either the constructive or the compulsive version. In the 7th, that area happens to be close partnership.

Any hope for successful romantic relationships?

Yes. The placement stays put, but the way you live with it can change: noticing the expectation you bring to partners, seeing which parts of the pattern are yours to change (not someone else's treatment of you), and putting Pluto's depth and honesty to work on purpose. If your Pluto sits far from the Descendant and touches no personal planet within 5°, it tends to be a quieter background theme rather than the center of your love life.

Pluto in the 7th house describes what your closest partnerships tend to ask of you: depth, honesty and a willingness to change. Before deciding how personal it is, check the distance to your Descendant, the tightest contact to a personal planet and your birth time, and keep the line between intensity and control clear.
